Steps to make to make Mamidikaya Pappu or Mango Dal

  1. In a pressure cooker, take tuvar dal. Add 1/4tsp turmeric powder and 1tsp salt. cook on a medium flame for 5-6 whistles or for 10 to 12 minutes till the dal is cooked very well. For a smaller cooker, less time will be required for cooking dal.
  2. When the pressure settles down on its own in the cooker, open the lid. Mash the cooked dal with a spoon. Keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Keep flame to a low and then splutter the panchforan, then add chilli, cand garlic. Fry till the garlic turns light golden. Now add chopped onions and curry leaves. Mix and begin to sauté onions on a low to medium-low flame till they turn translucent.
  4. Now add raw mango cubes, kasmiri mirch, 1/4tsp turmeric powder and 1/2tsp salt. Mix well. Keep the flame on low.
    Then add 1/4cup water cover and cook until mangoe becomes softens. Now add prepared daal and adjust salt to taste. Mix very well. If the dal looks very thick then you can add some water.
    Keep the flame on low. Cook for another 4-5 minutes.
    Mamidikaya Pappu or Mango Daal is ready. Serve hot with steamed rice.
